DEATH OF SHIMON PERES : PRIME MINISTER’S RESPONSE

It is with great sadness that Prime Minister Charles Michel learnt of the death of Shimon Peres, former President of Israel, at the age of 93.
“We have lost a great politician and advocate for peace. Throughout his long life, Shimon Peres was committed to a policy of peace and co-existence, in one of the most troubled regions in the world. His political career is undoubtedly a source of inspiration. Not only because it was such a long one, but also because he was committed to having Palestinians and Israelis living together peacefully”, said Charles Michel who remembered Shimon Peres’ commitment to the Oslo Accords.
This commitment was also recognised by the International Community when he received the Nobel Peace Prize, together with Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin in 1994.
On behalf of the Belgian Government, Charles Michel would like to express his sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Shimon Peres and to the people of Israel.
