Inauguration of the artwork in memory of the victims of the attacks - "Wounded but Still Standing in Front of the Inconceivable"

On 22 March, a memorial sculpture was inaugurated in the presence of the royal couple and political figures from Belgium and across Europe, including Prime Minister Charles Michel.

To pay homage to the victims of all the attacks, the federal government commissioned sculptor Jean-Henri Compère.

Called " Wounded but Still Standing in Front of the Inconceivable", the work is intended to be poetic, and is solely dedicated to the victims.

Compère explained his thought process: "I left a metre between the two to create an emotional and spiritual elevator. I wanted that those who had grieved could find peace in it, and from it derive comfort and renewed energy. "

PM Charles Michel, accompanied by Minister-President of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region Rudi Vervoort, and the Mayor of the City of Brussels Yvan Mayeur, unveiled the commemorative plaque, and so officially inaugurated the artwork, which was made by a number of Belgian craftspeople.
